The USB LIGHTER CO. has revolutionized its manufacturing by incorporating a groundbreaking additive into our process. This groundbreaking process creates a catalyst for biodegradation is created once our ABS plastic material used reaches the landfill, marine environment or compost site.
For our Motli Arc Lighter, MJR Electric Arc Lighter and LT Electric Arc lighters, the use of this additive facilitates the formation of a biofilm by microbes, which coats the surface of the plastic. These microorganisms then penetrate the plastic, expanding its molecular structure to accommodate other microbes that release chemical signals as part of the quorum sensing process. These signals attract additional microbes to the plastic.
Through this collaborative process, the microbes effectively break down the chemical bonds of polymer chains at an accelerated rate. Creating an opportunity for microbes to utilize plastic as food.
Rigorous testing has be completed of all organic additives used. Tests conducted: the ASTM D5511, 5338 and 6691 method. These methods provide a measure of how rapidly plastic treated with Pristine® breaks down compared to untreated plastic.
